Phoenix Recycling Group recycles 258-tonne Huntly transformer

In a great demonstration of what the circular economy looks like in action at an industrial scale, Phoenix Recycling Group has supported fellow SBC member Genesis Energy to recycle a 258-tonne transformer from Huntly Power Station. The project has successfully diverted 99% of materials from landfill and enabled the recovery and recycling of 69 tonnes of oil.

One NZ has become one of the first mobile operators in NZ to sell refurbished mobile phones, offering a lower emissions alternative to buying new devices. The initiative will help reduce eWaste and cut emissions by around 45%. The pilot also supports more circular ways of using technology, marking the next step in One NZ’s circularity journey.

Meridian Energy has received consent to build a 130MW solar farm at Bunnythorpe, marking another step in its renewable capacity expansion. The project, set to feature around 250,000 solar panels, will generate enough electricity for around 30,000 homes annually. The project is part of a $3 billion renewable energy investment and includes battery storage to support peak demand.

Chapman Tripp on final Sustainability-related disclosure guidance

Chapman Tripp has shared a summary of the key themes from the FMA’s final Sustainability-related disclosure guidance, which replaces its 2020 Disclosure Framework. The guidance applies to all sustainability-related claims under the FMC Act and is particularly relevant for managed investment scheme (MIS) managers in the post-CRD environment.

CLC signatory NZGBC has released its 2026 Election Manifesto, highlighting practical, evidence-based actions to strengthen NZs energy security and reduce costs for households and businesses. With energy prices and supply pressures rising, the manifesto outlines achievable solutions focused on improving building efficiency and supporting electrification.
